Clips of Hyderabad rape survivor on social media trigger fury

BJP workers protest inside the Jubilee Hills police station
HYDERABAD: Viral videos of a 17-year-old girl with suspects who raped her in Hyderabad’s Banjara Hills on May 28 have triggered outrage as people called for protection of the victim’s identity, which is mandated by law. These videos have been circulating widely on social media.
“It is disgusting to see people indulging in character assassination of the victim, circulating videos of the girl,” said a parent, who knows the girl. Another parent said: “Why are people so judgemental? Instead of ensuring that the victim gets justice, people are busy commenting on her character and questioning why she went to the pub. This should stop. ”
Many took to Twitter to raise the issue. “It’s disheartening to release such sensitive photos or videos, but this could’ve been avoided if a proper investigation was done by the police and would’ve not given clean chit to a politician’s son before the day. Now, what can we expect from friendly policing and political parties,” tweeted Trustmebro with the handle @Trustmebro15.
K Umashanker tweeted from the handle @Umashanker786: “Does the Indian judicial system have the capability to punish such educated idiots? Instead of supporting and taking care of the girl’s life and her family, they are causing anguish to them. ”
