RAJKOT: Husband of a woman constable in Mahuva town of Bhavnagar was arrested for opening fire near a police chowky and trying to injure a cop.
Accused Ram Makwana and another unidentified person with him came in a car without a registration number and stopped it in front of Gandhi police chowky on Saturday afternoon.
Makwana got down and opened two rounds in the air. Hearing the gun shots, cops from the chowky rushed out and one of them, Haresh Gohil, who recognized Makwana, warned him to stop. However, Makwana threatened to shoot him and sat in his car. Opening the car window, he again opened fire at Gohil, who ducked and saved himself.
The accused then sped away and three km ahead, their car hit a road divider. They abandoned the car and fled. However, Makwana was arrested late in the night.
Police sources said that the duo was reportedly drunk and Makwana only wanted to show-off his might by firing.
