Heatwave likely from today, no relief for next 5 days in Haryana: Met

The temperature continued to remain on the higher side on Sunday with hot and humid condition troubling the residents throughout the day. The maximum temperature was recorded at 43.6 degrees Celsius- three notches above the normal- while the minimum temperature stood at 27 degrees Celsius, a notch above the season's normal.

The Met department has already issued a yellow alert for south Haryana region, including Gurugram and Faridabad, and predicted heatwave conditions on Monday. A Met official said there will be no major respite from heat in the next few days. The maximum temperature is expected to hover between 42 and 44 during this week.
"Heatwave conditions have been observed in isolated pockets in Haryana on Sunday and there is a possibility of the same on Monday too in Gurugram and other southern parts of the state. With high humidity and cloudlessness, people are feeling more uncomfortable. There will be no significant change in the temperature during the next five days. The weather is likely to remain dry for the next few days, however, some rainfall activity can be expected on June 10 and 11," an IMD official said.
Despite being a holiday, streets wore a deserted look as the warm winds prevailed during the day compelling residents to remain indoors. High moisture in the air also made residents uncomfortable as the relative humidity index oscillated between 44% and 64% .
For Monday, there will be mainly clear skies with strong surface winds during the day. The minimum and maximum temperature is expected to hover around 28 and 43 degrees Celsius.
The residents, meanwhile, continued to breathe poor quality air on Sunday. The overall AQI reading was at 230 as compared to 240 on Saturday. Three of the four monitoring stations including, Teri Gram, Vikas Sadan and Sector 51 recorded the AQI in 'poor' category with reading of 222, 266 and 264, respectively. While it was in 'moderate' category at Gwalphari with 175 reading.
Meanwhile, parts of Delhi witnessed 'heatwave' and 'severe heatwave' conditions on Sunday. However, there were no heatwave conditions at Safdarjung which is the city's base station, but the maximum temperature rose from 43.9 degrees Celsius on Saturday to 44.2 degrees Celsius, four degrees above normal. The minimum temperature even crossed 30 degrees Celsius at some stations IMD said relief is expected from June 11.
