Rajkot: A seven-year-old boy was rescued from
Jamnagar within hours of being kidnapped by a debt-ridden man in Morbi town.
Police also arrested the accused Rajesh
Jagodara, who works at a paan shop outside Uma Residency on Ghuntu Road in Morbi.
The boy
Parv Vidja had come to his maternal uncle Rajesh Jotaniya’s house to spend vacation. He stays with parents in a nearby village.
On Saturday evening, his maternal grandfather Shamji took him outside the society to play. While Parv was playing with other kids, Shamji, who works as a private security guard, left, assuming that the boy would return home after playing. However, when he did not return till late, his uncle and others started searching for him. When he was not found anywhere, they inquired at the paan shop where Jagodara worked. His wife told them that Jagodara had taken Parv along saying he would treat him to a gola and return soon.
Jotaniya then approached Morbi Taluka police station and lodged a complaint of kidnapping.
Five teams of local crime branch and taluka police started scanning the
CCTV footage and tracking Jagodara's mobile location. They also circulated photos of Parv to all the police of all adjoining districts.
Meanwhile, late in the night, Jamnagar police intercepted a bike and identified the boy. They alerted Morbi cops who took the boy's custody and arrested Jagodara.
“During preliminary questioning, Jagdoara claims that he only took the boy for a joyride. But we are not buying his claims. He is facing a severe financial crisis and has defaulted on home loan instalment. It's possible he may have kidnapped the boy for ransom,” said
Viral Patel, inspector, Morbi Taluka police station.
Jagodara had taken Parv on his bike and travelled nearly 100 kms, He even fed up snacks on the way,
