Assam: Cop held for 'colluding with fiance' to cheat contractors

GUWAHATI: The Assam police officer, who had arrested her fiance last month on fraud charges, was sent behind bars on Sunday after it was found that she had colluded with him to dupe two contractors. SI Junmoni Rabha has been suspended from service with immediate effect.
Rabha was posted in Nagaon district at the time of suspension. Prior to that, she was posted in Majuli. It was there that she had met her fiance, Rana Pogag, and allegedly helped him in cheating the two contractors, Ram Abatra Sharma and Ajit Bora.
Leena Doley, SP (Nagaon), said, "We were intimated by the Majuli district police about SI Rabha's arrest in connection with a case. Following due procedure, she has been suspended from service."
Earlier, police in Majuli had arrested Pogag on various charges, including "criminal conspiracy" and "cheating", based on two seperate FIRs lodged by the two contractors alleging huge financial transactions between them. The complainant had claimed that Rabha had introduced Pogag to them and it was because of her that they had given the money to Pogag for getting contract works from ONGC.
Since Rabha's name appeared in the FIRs, police arrested her on Saturday evening after interrogating her for two consecutive days.
Pogag, who is currently in judicial custody in Nagaon, was arrested under sections 120B, 170, 406, 419, 420, 468, 471 and 472 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
A resident of Majuli, Pogag had allegedly duped many people in his home district of crores of rupees on the pretext of providing them jobs at ONGC by passing off as its PRO.
