Neighbour attempts to rape woman at knife-point in Surat

SURAT: A 24-year-old woman from Jahangirpura area of the city has filed a complaint with police, alleging that her neighbour Rashid Pathan tried to rape her at knife-point in the wee hours of Saturday. Pathan is also a friend of the woman’s husband.
According to police, the woman lives with her two sons (one is two and a half years, another is one year) and her mother-in-law. Her husband works as a waiter at a hotel in Pune.
On Friday, around 11pm, the mother-in-law went to the terrace to sleep after closing the door from outside. Around 3am on Saturday, the woman suddenly heard a noise and wake up. She saw that Pathan was holding her elder son and standing in the room. Pathan put a knife at her son’s neck and told her not to make any noise.
When the woman pleaded with Pathan, he left the child but put the knife at her neck. Pathan then asked her to undress. Then he tried to rape her, after putting down the knife. But the woman kicked Pathan, which forced him to escape from the spot.
