GPS to be installed on KKRTC buses

Kalaburagi: Eager to improve its services to passengers, the Kalyana Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (KKRTC) has decided to instal GPS devices so passengers can avoid having to plan their journeys down to the minute. Passengers can monitor the movements of their buses in real-time, which will save them precious time otherwise spent waiting at the bus terminals.
Bus passengers can now get information on the exact time at which the vehicles will arrive at the push for a button. If all things go according to plan, KKRTC buses equipped with GPS devices will be on the roads within the next few months. There have been several complaints from passengers about the failure of KKRTC to stick to a specific schedule. Once installed, the GPS devices will solve this problem for both the crew and the passengers.
Passengers said that, even the controllers at the bus terminals, had little idea about when one could expect the bus. “All they tell us is that, the bus is slightly late, and may arrive anytime now,” they said.
When contacted, KKRTC managing director Patil Bhuvanesh Devidas told TOI, “We will be installing the GPS device on 325 buses as part of our pilot project. We have invited tenders to develop the mobile app. Depending on the response, we will install the devices on all KKRTC buses. The company bagging the contract will be given 180 days to develop the app. Once the GPS device is installed on the buses, and the app developed, passengers will no longer have to wait for their bus.”
