Yoga Day rehearsal: 20,000 turn up at Mysore Palace

Cutting across ages, citizens of Mysuru gathered in the courtyard of the Mysore Palace with much gusto early on Sunday morning to signal their readiness for the International Yoga Day celebrations
MYSURU: Around 20,000 people on Sunday performed various yoga asanas outside the Mysuru Palace during the first rehearsal for the International Day of Yoga on June 21 in which Prime Minister Narendra is expected to participate. Speaking to reporters later, district minister ST Somashekhar said two more rehearsals will be held, one of these on June 12. The district administration will start registering the names of participants.
The state government has decided to register 12,000 people and the Centre will register 3,000 yoga enthusiasts, among them government employees, specially-abled people and sexual minorities.
As chief minister Basavaraj Bommai will be in the city on June 8, a detailed picture of the registration of participants will be available after his visit. The district administration will decide on the list of participants.
Avadhoota Datta Peetha’s Ganapathi Sacchidananda Swamiji, MLAs SA Ramdas, L Nagendra, mayor Sunanda Palanethra and Yoga Federation members took part in the rehearsal. People from various walks of life also participated.
The rehearsal was hosted by Sahaja Yoga Meditation Camp at Gopalaswamy ShishuVihara Pre-University College in the Lakshmipuram area in the city.
Rehearsals were also held at JSS Residential School at Suttur Srikshetra in Nanjangud taluk.
Hundreds of students participated in the event. School secretary Shivakumaraswamy, administrative officer Udayashankar and members of Patanjali Yoga Shikshana Samithi of Nanjangud taluk also took part.
