The Centre has approved a four-decade-low interest rate of 8.1 percent on Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) deposits for 2021-22 down from 8.5% in the previous year. This will pave the way for crediting the interest into the accounts of over sixty million EPFO subscribers in 2021-22 earlier than usual. In the previous years, interest rate had been generally credited into the subscribers’ account around Diwali or later due to delay in approval from the finance ministry.

Any employee who contributes to the EPF can check the balance of his or her account using different modes; they do not need to wait for the employer to share the Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) statement at the end of the year to find out the balance.

Every month, an employee contributes 12% of his or her base income to the PF account, and the employer matches this payment. Employees can, however, contribute more than this through the Voluntary Provident Fund (VPF). The interest rate on VPF and EPF is the same.
Umang App, EPFO Member e-Sewa portal, SMS, or a missed call are all options for checking your EPF amount.

How to check EPF balance using Umang app
The Umang app allows employees to check their PF balance on their mobile phones. The government released the Umang app to give citizens access to a variety of government services in one spot. The software allows users to see their EPF Passbook, submit claims, and track their claims. To get started, enter your phone number and complete a one-time registration.

How to check EPF balance using the EPFO portal
Click on 'Member Passbook' under the area for employees on the EPFO website. You can view the PF passbook by logging in with your UAN and password. The employee and employer contributions will be broken down, as well as the opening and closing balances. The amount of PF interest earned as well as any PF transfers will be displayed. One can also check EPF balance in passbook.

How to check EPF balance using SMS
To check the balance of your EPF account, send an SMS to 7738299899. EPFOHO UAN is the format in which the message must be sent. To get this message in a language other than English, include the first three characters of the desired language in the message.

How to check EPF balance using missed call
If you're registered on the UAN site, a missed call from your registered mobile number to 011-22901406 will get you the information you need. Ascertain that your UAN is seeded with your bank account number, Aadhaar number, and PAN number.
