Belagavi: Karnataka additional director general of police (
ADGP)
Alok Kumar on Sunday warned those fomenting communal discord in the state of being liable to face stern action. Kumar, who participated in the police parade in Belagavi, called on police in the city to be vigilant about ongoing criminal activity.
“Police department often has to parade rowdies to keep their criminal activities in check,” he added.
Unhappy with provocative statements being made by a few, which he said could fuel social unrest, the ADGP said that such individuals would be punished. “I have instructed officers to convene meetings of all zonal-level authorities so they can keep themselves abreast of the activities of the criminal outfits,” he said.
On a query about the ongoing probe into the
PSI recruitment scam, Kumar pointed out that the investigation was being led by sleuths of the Criminal Investigation Department. “Although we are investigating the case, we have learnt that a few people in
Gokak were involved in the scam, and I have instructed Belagavi superintendent of police
Laxman Nimbargi to look into the same,” he added.
The ADGP was felicitated at the parade, where he also received an honorary salute from the marching cops. Kumar expressed regret over the unethical means that aspirants were resorting to in order to become cops. “Aspirants must enter the police force through honest means,” Kumar said.
He exhorted all cops to take a pledge to keep society safe. “We must help people who are in trouble,” Kumar added.
