AHMEDABAD: The city recorded 94-day high daily Covid tally at 42 on Sunday. With discharge of 14 patients, the active cases reached 200, the highest in 86 days. Gujarat also recorded its 92-day high daily tally at 68. With discharge of 21 patients, the tally crossed 300 at 340.
It was also one of the highest single-day jump in active cases from 293 on Saturday to 340 on Sunday in the recent times. As of Sunday, Ahmedabad accounted for six out of every 10 active cases in Gujarat. Analysis of the daily cases reveal that the first five days have recorded 85% cases from major cities.
The state health department officials said that the cases are still coming in clusters as far as Ahmedabad is concerned. "Western parts of the city are recording more new cases, but there's not a set pattern yet. Analysis of the new cases is on, but they are either with milder symptoms or with no symptoms at all. Hospitalization has not increased so far, but we are keeping a close watch on the trend - for the past fortnight, the city accounts for nearly 50% of the new and active cases in the state," said an official.
The other cases included 8 from Vadodara city, 4 from Rajkot city, 3 from Vadodara district, 2 each from Surat city, Kutch and Mehsana, and 1 each from Bhavnagar and Gandhinagar cities, and Morbi, Navsari, and Sabarkantha districts. None of the active cases were on ventilator according to the state health department officials. Out of 33 districts in Gujarat, now only 16 have zero active cases.
Gujarat in 24 hours vaccinated 1,555 persons for the first dose and 28,581 for the second. In all, 5.39 crore are administered first and 5.27 crore second dose of Covid vaccine. The state administered booster doses to 25,578 persons, taking total to 34.51 lakh.
