Coimbatore: A traffic police constable was transferred to the city police control room on Saturday after video of him slapping a food delivery agent went viral on social media. An inquiry has been initiated on the incident.
The constable, Sathish, who was attached to the
Singanallur traffic police station, was posted on duty at the traffic signal near Fun Republic Mall on Avinashi Road on Friday.

Mohanasundaram, 38, from
Chinniyampalayam, works as a delivery agent with an online food delivery app. On Friday evening, he was on his way to deliver an order from
Hope College to Puliyakulam Road on a motorcycle.
“I saw a school van taking a turn rashly near the mall on Avinashi Road. It was about to hit two youths. So, I waylaid the van on Scheme Road and questioned the van driver. Due to this, the traffic was halted. A cop regulating the traffic at the signal came to the spot, snatched my mobile phone and damaged my earphones. He then slapped me repeatedly. I don’t know what to do and started crying in full public view,” Mohanasundaram said.
Mohanasundaram used to run a stationery shop at Chinniyampalayam. The pandemic forced him to shut his business. To feed his parents, wife and two children, he become a delivery agent. The family stays in a rental house.
A motorist recorded the traffic cop slapping Mohanasundaram on mobile phone and posted the video on social media on Friday evening.
