PATNA: Medical colleges across the state are gearing up to introduce compulsory yoga training in the MBBS foundation course from the current academic session as per the directive of the
National Medical Commission (
NMC).
Aryabhatta Knowledge University’s medicine faculty dean Dr Rajiv Ranjan Prasad told this newspaper that the yoga training is scheduled to begin from June 12 and will end on June 21, which is celebrated as International Yoga Day. This training will be held for an hour every day for at least a period of 10 days. “Preparations are already on for imparting yoga training to the students at various medical colleges, including
Patna Medical College,
Nalanda Medical College and Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences,” Prasad said.
A common yoga protocol has been released by the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga under the Ministry of Ayush in order to ensure symmetry in yoga training programme at all the medical colleges across the country.
It may be mentioned here that the NMC has recently asked medical colleges to initiate immediate action to introduce yoga training programmes in the MBBS curriculum for the current batch. A new competency-based medical education for MBBS curriculum has been implemented by the NMC from this academic session.
Meanwhile, the
National Service Scheme units of different universities and colleges are also making necessary preparations for celebrating the International Yoga Day.
