Man gets five years RI for sexually assaulting minor

Tirupur: The fast-track mahila court here has sentenced a 50-year-old man to five years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a nine-year-old girl last year.
The girl, a school student, was staying with her parents in a rented house in Tirupur city. Her neighbour, a Dindigul native and an ironer, had set up shop in front of her house. On September 6, 2021, around 1pm, he lured the girl, who was playing in front of her house, using candies and sexually assaulted her.
The girl told her parents about the incident and they lodged a complaint with Tirupur north all women police inspector Prema on September 8, 2021. Police registered a case against the man under sections 9 (m) read with 10 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, and arrested him.Judge S Nagarajan awarded five-year rigorous imprisonment to the man on Friday and slapped a fine of 5,000 on him. The court also directed the state government to provide 25,000 to the girl as compensation.TNN
