Noida: Two men have been arrested for allegedly producing and selling fake school and university degrees. Police identified the accused as Abdul Samad (61), a Ghaziabad resident, and Adil (26), who lives in Dadri.
According to the police, Abdul has been forging the documents for the past 22 years. “We received a tip-off about some people making fake marksheets, degrees and other certificates of classes 10 and 12 and different colleges and universities. Acting on this, a team from Phase 1 police station raided the Naya Bans area near Sector 15 metro station on Saturday and arrested the two,” said Ranvijay Singh, the additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP).
Police recovered nearly 120 marksheets of different schools and colleges, a printer, a computer and stacks of white paper from their shop. “While Abdul has been forging documents for over 20 years, Adil joined him just two months ago. Adil’s father Akil was Abdul’s accomplice for all these years. However, he died around two months ago after which his son joined,” added Singh.
While Abdul used to make the certificates using the software CorelDraw, Adil, and earlier his father, Akil, used to get customers. “They used to charge between Rs 3,000 and Rs 4,000 for making a fake certificate. Rates were fixed according to document type. They used to make 10-15 documents and earned nearly Rs 50,000-60,000 per month,” the ADCP told TOI.
According to assistant commissioner of police (ACP) Rajneesh Verma, Abdul has made more than 10,000 fake degrees and marksheets.
During questioning, the accused told police that mostly those who had to furnish documents for private jobs used to approach them. “We have not found any evidence of these documents being used for government competitive exams so far. Since we have also found some law-related documents, we are checking if they were used to get access to any bar association,” said Verma.
Meanwhile, the police have frozen the bank accounts of the arrested persons. “They were produced before the magistrate, who sent them to jail,” added the ACP.
