PATNA: Around 25 members of Mayor and Deputy Mayor
Council of Bihar on Saturday met deputy CM
Tarkishore Prasad and requested him to extend their tenure. In their memorandum, they requested the state government to pass an ordinance for extension of their tenure under the provision of clause 9 of section 12 of the
Bihar Municipal Act, so that they remain in power until the next election.
They say appointing officials as administrators of the urban local bodies would have an adverse long-term impact.
Around 245 municipal corporations and municipalities will be dissolved as the five-year tenure of the councillors is to be over on June 19.
“Power should be given to the current councillors of the local bodies and municipalities for the work in urban areas. In the zilla parishad, a notification was issued to get the work done by the public representatives,” reads a part of the memorandum.
Patna mayor
Sita Sahu said interim measures are required to keep the municipalities working by extending the tenure of outgoing elected representatives till the new election.
“We are expecting the elections not before October,” she told TOI.
