NASHIK: The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) police in Ahmednagar district have seized red sandalwood worth Rs 3.25 crore. The wood was stored in a godown illegally.
The police said one person has been arrested and three others, who were also involved in the crime, are on the run. Police teams were sent to various places to nab them.
Police said they had received an information about the stock of red sandalwood being illegally stored in a godown.
Police sub-inspector C B Handal said the team raided the premises on Saturday evening and found the red sandalwood stock hidden under potatoes in the godown.
“The accused had taken the godown on rent about a month ago and used to trade in goods like potatoes and other vegetables. The accused got the red sandalwood and illegally stored stock here,” the police said.
Police have seized 60,660 kg of red sandalwood from the godown
“We are investigating the matter further to find who all were the accused in contact with to deal with the good, how they procured it and their intentions of stocking sandalwood,” said the police adding that there could be larger players involved in it.
