Mangaluru: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (
ACB) trapped an assistant executive engineer (
AEE) of the Mangaluru City Corporation (
MCC), while receiving a bribe from a sub-contractor.
Based on a complaint received, the ACB team conducted a raid on Thursday evening, and caught Ateek Rehaman A T, an AEE attached to the engineering section of the MCC, red-handed, while receiving a bribe.
Sources in ACB said that Ateek Rehaman had allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 3,000 from the complainant. “The ACB team has trapped the officer, while receiving a bribe from complainant Jayalingappa, a sub-contractor from Mandarabail, Konchadi, in the city. Jayalingappa had filed a complaint against
Ateeq Rehaman, stating that the officer demanded a bribe to clear a bill pertaining to a work taken up by him in the city. A case has been booked under sections 7 and 12 of the
Prevention of Corruption Act against the official, and he was produced before the court. Later, the court remanded him in judicial custody,” stated sources.
