
Delhi News Highlights Today: The Enforcement Directorate on Monday conducted raids against arrested Delhi minister Satyendar Jain as part of a money-laundering investigation being conducted against him, officials said.
On Sunday, the Aam Aadmi Party organised a protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi against the recent spurt in targeted killings in Kashmir and slammed the BJP-led Union government for the situation. Several AAP workers and leaders, including Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, Environment Minister Gopal Rai, Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh and other MLAs attended the ‘Jan Aakrosh Rally’ and raised anti-BJP slogans. Delhi Chief Minister and AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal addressed the rally and said that Kashmiri Pandits are being forced to leave their homes in a repeat of what happened in 1990s.
Kejriwal Saturday said that his government has formed volunteers-based committees to look after all the 500 high-mast tricolours that are being installed across the city under its ‘Deshbhakti Budget’. He added that each Tiranga Samman Samiti will have five members and they must mobilise an army of 1,000 young volunteers in their areas and commit to social welfare works.
Highlighting the targeted killings and exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from Jammu and Kashmir, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday urged the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Union government to “get over with the meetings” and “take action on the ground” in the Kashmir Valley.
Addressing the AAP’s ‘Jan Akrosh Rally’ at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi in solidarity with Kashmiri Pandits, Kejriwal said: “Whenever there is a murder in Kashmir, it comes in the media that the home minister (Amit Shah) has called a meeting. Too many meetings have been held but people are dying. Now, the country and its citizens want action. The Kashmiri Pandits want action. What is the action plan for the Kashmir valley?” asked Kejriwal. Read more

While addressing the 'Jan Aakrosh Rally' at Jantar Mantar today, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that the Kashmiri Pandits were being forced to leave their homes and that this was a repeat of what happened in 1990s.
"BJP has govt failed to give security to Kashmiri Pandits. Many meetings have been held, everyone wants to know the action plan," Kejriwal said.
The CM attacked the BJP, saying that the party "can't handle Kashmir, it only know how to do dirty politics."
Kejriwal urged the Central government to fulfill demands of Kashmiri Pandits, provide them with security and put forth an action plan for the Valley.

"Our Kashmiri Pandit sisters and brothers are being killed due to the failures of the BJP government. The government which gained votes in the name of Kashmiri Pandits has now stepped back and has left the people to die," Sisodia added.

According to Sandeep Kumar, sub inspector Dhaulana police station and chowki in-charge, fireworks were being produced inside the factory even though permission had been sought to manufacture electronics. "There were no chemicals or boiler inside the factory premises. Plastic pellets and other materials found at the spot after the blast make us believe that they were producing fireworks inside," he said.
"The owner of the factory is one Dilshad, who is a resident of Meerut. He had rented the factory to one Waseem who is from Hapur. We have tried to trace both people but their phones are switched off. We were told Waseem was one of the injured but we have not been able to track him," he said.
Sandeep Kumar, sub inspector Dhaulana police station and chowki in-charge, UPSIDC, has said the death toll now stands at 12. There are 13 others injured who are admitted in various hospitals in Delhi, Meerut and Ghaziabad.
Delhi on Saturday reported 405 new Covid-19 cases and zero deaths. Active cases in the city now stand at 1467.
At least six people died and more than 15 people were injured in a chemical factory fire at Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur on Saturday afternoon, with preliminary information suggesting that a boiler had exploded at the site.
Officials said that the toll could go up and that most people trapped in the fire were labourers working at the plant.
The factory was located at a Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Corporation (UPSIDC) site in Hapur’s Dhaulana area. More than 20 fire tenders were rushed to the site, officials said. Search and rescue operations are being carried out. Read more

Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal has written to Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur seeking urgent action against a body spray advertisement that trivialises sexual violence.
Taking suo motu cognizance of the matter, Maliwal also issued notice to the Delhi Police Cyber Crime team and sought registration of an FIR and removal of the content from mass media. The Delhi Police has been asked to provide an action taken report in the matter by June 9.
“I am shocked! What disgraceful and pathetic advertisements are being served on our television screens. What is this creative process that promotes toxic masculinity in its worst form and encourages gang rape culture! FIR should be registered, advertisements should be taken off air and strongest penalty should be imposed on this company. Delhi Police and I&B Ministry must urgently act in the matter without wasting any further time,” said Maliwal. Read more
Delhi High Court stays trial court order allowing AAP leader Satyendar Kumar Jain to have a lawyer present during his interrogation by Enforcement Directorate. "Since there is no apprehension raised in the present matter, hence as a matter of right such direction ought not to have been given in recording statement," Justice Yogesh Khanna said in the order.
A 28-year-old man was allegedly murdered by a 22-year-old man in Delhi’s Adarsh Nagar area on Friday after a fight over money to buy drugs, police said, adding that the victim was allegedly stabbed with a blade and assaulted with bricks.
According to the police, the deceased, Narender alias Bunti, and the accused, Rahul Kali, were declared ‘bad character’ in the Adarsh Nagar police station records. Rahul was arrested, police said, adding that efforts were being made to arrest his brother, who is absconding. Read more
The Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) on Friday held a flash protest outside Lakshmibai College against the decision of the principal and the governing body to advertise for fewer posts in the Hindi department as compared to the current number of teachers.
“The college appointed 17 teachers (7 permanent and 10 ad hoc) in the department of Hindi against the approved workload for more than five academic sessions and even in the current academic session 2021-22. The college has twice got the roster approved by the university on earlier occasions with a total of 17 teaching positions in the Hindi department of the college. However, the principal along with some vested interests and some members of the governing body have claimed that the workload of the Hindi department has been reduced to 15 posts whereas the department of Hindi has claimed to have a workload meant for 17 teachers,” said DUTA president A K Bhagi. The number of Covid-19 cases in the capital and the positivity rate have remained more or less stagnant for over two weeks now, with the figures remaining above the levels seen after the third Omicron-driven wave had subsided. The average daily incidence of Covid stands at 386 over the last fifteen days, fluctuating between 530 at the highest and 212 at the lowest. In comparison, the numbers had even dropped below 100 in March.
The positivity rate – proportion of samples tested that return positive, which is indicative of the spread of the infection – has also remained between 1.7% and 2.7%, according to data shared by the Delhi government. The average positivity rate recorded over the last 15 days is 2.05%. In comparison, it had dropped to as low as 0.37% in March after the third wave. Read more
The health department in Ghaziabad has sent the samples of a five-year-old child for monkeypox testing. According to officials with the department, a clinic informed them about a young child with specific symptoms related to the disease and samples were taken as part of precautionary measures.
As per health officials, the minor was taken to an ENT clinic for an examination pertaining to a hearing ailment on May 23. The doctor who examined the child soon informed higher authorities that the minor had excessive rashes and itching on the skin. The surveillance officer took cognisance of the information and a rapid response team was deployed. Read more
To improve surveillance, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has installed eight cameras equipped with facial recognition technology at the entry and exit gates of MG Road Metro station. Officials said eight such cameras will also be installed at the Sikanderpur Metro station by June 10.
A GMDA official said that in line with the requirement of the police, the cameras will be used for general surveillance. Using artificial intelligence, the cameras will support in detection and tracing of people with a criminal record and missing persons, the official added. Read more
