Rajkot: The flight service between Bhuj and Ahmedabad which started on Friday under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) is expected to boost tourism in
Kutch.
State minister for roads, building, transport and civil aviation Purnesh Modi inaugurated the service at Dayapar in Kutch.
A 50-seater Embraer ERJ145 aircraft will operate five days a week between Bhuj and Ahmedabad. The one-way fare per person for the hour-long flight will be about Rs 2,000.
The aircraft will fly from Belgaum (
Karnataka) to Ahmedabad to Bhuj.
According to the airport authority, those who want to go to Goa, which is 100 km from Belgaum by road, can take this flight to reach Belgaum.
Kutch is home to tourist destinations like Mata no Madh, Mandvi beach and the White Desert. This air connectivity will help boost tourism as travellers from other states can get air connectivity to Bhuj from Ahmedabad. Currently, a 70-seater aircraft operates four days a week between Bhuj to Mumbai.
Aviation minister Purnesh Modi said, “We have international airports at Ahmedabad and Surat. Rajkot airport is under construction. The four airstrips each at Morbi, Palitana, Ankleshwar and
Rajpipla are also under construction.”
According to the minister, 17 new air routes have started from seven airports including Ahmedabad, Porbandar, Kandla, Bhavnagar, Jamnagar and Keshod under the RCS. “The state government has signed an MoU for the manufacturing of small training aircraft at Amreli and the government has also initiated the work to construct an aviation park at Rajkot,” Modi added.
