
The Mumbai Police arrested two women and detained four minors on Friday for allegedly killing a 51-year-old man at Tilak Nagar in Chembur early Thursday. The two women are the mothers of the minors who have been detained.
Police said the six allegedly went to the house of Prakash Waghmare and assaulted him after he objected to his niece’s relationship with one of the minors.
According to the police, the incident took place around 1 am on Thursday. Waghmare, who was disabled, could not defend himself during the assault, which led to his death, officers said.

“His 16-year-old niece is in a relationship with one of the minor, who is also 16 years old. Her family, including her elder brother and uncle (Waghmare), had objected after she was often seen with the boy and his three friends,” said an officer.
An argument broke outover the matter on Wednesday night, after which the family refused to let her step out of the house.
However, the girl met the boy alter. “The boy then called the girl’s brother and threatened him if he stopped the girl from meeting him,” said the officer.
Subsequently, the boy gathered the other three minors and the two women and went to the girl’s house at Chembur early Thursday to beat up her brother, the police said. “While the brother managed to flee, they assaulted the uncle with bamboo sticks,” the officer added.
