Thane: As many as 16 schools including seven from Thane corporation limits have been declared illegal and parents have been asked to shift their children to other schools, officials from the education department informed Friday.
Lalita Dahitule, education officer, secondary section at the Thane Zila Parishad said they came across the schools operating illegally in various parts of the district including Thane city, Bhiwandi,
Ambernath and Navi Mumbai. The respective school managements will be asked to shut down their facilities else face action. The department said they were in the process of ascertaining the number of students studying in these schools.
The education department officials said it is an annual process of identifying schools that are operating without seeking mandatory approvals based on the
Unified District Information System for Education reports. Once identified, the education department issues notices to these schools to stop operating and subsequently take action. The process was halted during the last two years due to
Covid and has resumed this year, said officials.
