GREATER NOIDA: Police probing the death of a 27-year-old man have arrested his 22-year-old girlfriend for allegedly beating him up along with her brothers and associates and then poisoning him to death. The woman,
Rinki, has told the police that
Gaurav Kumar, who was from Jarcha in Greater Noida, wanted to marry her, but she was reluctant.
An injured Gaurav was found along a road in Chithera Bambay village on May 23. “He was taken to a nearby health facility. He was later referred to Safdarjung hospital, but the family took him to Kailash hospital. He died there,” said Meenakshi Katyayan,
DCP in Greater Noida. Gaurav’s father, Ratanpal, lodged a complaint against Rinki, saying his son had gone to meet her. “When my son reached Dadri, Rinki and the others fed him some poisonous substance. Later, they told him about it. Gaurav then tried to flee on his bike, but they gave him a chase and attacked him in Chithera Bambay,”
Ratanpal told TOI.
A case was then registered against Rinki and seven others under sections 302 (murder), 323 (causing hurt), 328 (causing hurt by means of poison), 504 (insult to provoke breach of peace), 506 (criminal intimidation) of the
IPC. Charges under the stringent Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, were also invoked. “Rinki was on the run ever since police lodged an FIR against her. We arrested her on Friday. Rinki had called Gaurav to Dadri on the pretext of fleeing away with him. Gaurav had been pressuring her to marry him at the earliest, but she was not very keen on that,” said Nitin Singh, ACP- 2 (Greater Noida). Investigations revealed Rinki allegedly mixed sulfas with his food and fed it to him.
