Greater Noida: Criminal with Rs 25,000 bounty among 3 held after gunfights

GREATER NOIDA: Three criminals, including two involved in Rs 80 lakh robbery related to a Greater Noida-based company, were nabbed following two separate gun fights, police said Thursday. The third accused was facing charges in a 2018 loot case and was carrying a Rs 25,000 reward on his arrest. Two of the criminals were also injured in the cross-firing, police added.
DCP (Greater Noida) Meenakshi Katyayan said two of the accused - Sagar and Suraj - were wanted in a case of stolen mobile phone displays worth Rs 80 lakh from the Unitech Company. During a checking drive near Gautam Buddha University (GBU) in Ecotech-1 around 3am on Thursday, the police spotted them approaching on a bike and signalled them to stop. "The two criminals didn't stop and instead tried to push past the cops in a bid to flee," the DCP said, adding that the men tried to escape through the service road but were intercepted by the cops. When they fired at the police, the DCP said, the cops retaliated and one of the accused, Sagar, was injured and subsequently nabbed.
"The second accused, Suraj, managed to flee but was arrested during a combing operation later. A country-made pistol and some live and empty cartridges were recovered," Katyayan said. Sarita Malik, in charge of Ecotech-1 police station, told TOI that with their arrest, police have so far nabbed nine criminals in the Unitech robbery case. "All the 6,400 mobile phone screen displays that were stolen from the company on May 1 have been recovered. Cops will press charges under the Uttar Pradesh Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act against the accused," Malik said. In the second gun battle, near Accher under Beta-2 police station jurisdiction around 6am on Thursday, a criminal carrying a bounty of Rs 25,000 on his arrest was nabbed, police said.
Police recovered a bike, a country-made pistol and some cartridges.
