GURUGRAM: A 21-year-old woman waiting outside her college on Tuesday was forced into an SUV at gunpoint by a youth who had been stalking her, allegedly assaulted and threatened with “consequences” for turning him down, and then thrown out of the vehicle by him an hour later, police said.

The BSc first-year student, who is from Nepal, was found uninjured. The main accused was arrested later in the day.
The incident is a stark reminder of the Nikita Tomar case in Faridabad in 2020. On October 26 that year, the 20-year-old BCom student had stepped out of her college in Ballabhgarh when a former classmate reached the spot in his car and shot her dead as she resisted an abduction attempt. The main accused and his associate were awarded life imprisonment.
In Tuesday's incident, police said the woman was waiting outside the gate of the Government Girls College in Sector 14 with a classmate to take an autorickshaw when Rahul and his friend reached the spot in a Fortuner. Rahul alias Charanjeet (27) allegedly pointed a gun at the woman and told her to sit inside the car. “He said he would kill her and her friend on the spot if she didn’t sit inside the SUV,” a police officer said on Wednesday.
The woman complied. Once she was inside the SUV, Rahul’s friend Manas (25) drove off, police said.
Rahul, a friend of the woman in the past, allegedly threatened to harm the woman's family if she did not accept his proposal for marriage, As she resisted, he held her to stop her from shouting or trying to escape and broke her cellphone. An hour later, around 3.30pm, Rahul threw her out of the car near Rampura flyover, 15km away, police said. The woman managed to get back home, at a housing society in New Gurugram, from there.
Police said they launched a search immediately after the woman’s classmate called and alerted them within minutes of the abduction.
All police stations in nearby areas put up barricades. By 4.30pm, police said, they were able to arrest Rahul near his house in Sector 82. His friend Manas, who lives in Sector 84, is on the run.
An FIR has been registered at the Civil Lines police station against both the accused under sections 365 (abduction), 366 (kidnapping and abducting or inducing woman to compel her for marriage), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 427 (mischief causing damage), 34 (common intention) of the IPC apart from relevant sections of the Arms Act.
“Manas is absconding and we are tracking him down. We have arrested Rahul and we are investigating the case. The woman is safe,” ACP (crime) Preetpal Sangwan said. The Fortuner, a pistol and six live cartridges have been recovered from Rahul’s possession.
