Thane: 2 killed, another injured while crossing tracks at Diva station

THANE: Two persons were killed and another injured after they were hit by a train while crossing tracks at Diva station early on Wednesday, according to the police.
The victims were all residents of Diva. Geeta Shinde (32), a housemaid who was on her way to Sion, and Deepak Sawant (27), who worked in a bank at Bhandup, came in the path of the running train and were crushed to death. Mahadevi Jadhav, worked at a private firm in Colaba but was travelling to Ghansoli on Wednesday. Jadhav luckily got flung away by the collision impact and suffered only minor injuries. “The victims had crossed the railway tracks from Diva East after dodging the level crossing at the CSMT end of the station. They wanted to board a slow train from platform 2 and were crossing over when they failed to notice a Khopoli-bound suburban train coming on the down fast track and got hit,” said Pandhari Kande, senior inspector at Thane railway station. —
