Strike hassles at sub-registrar office

Ludhiana: As the sub-registrars and revenue officers proceeded on six days of long mass leave of absence, the visitors had a tough time on Wednesday at the sub-registrar’s office. The Punjab Revenue Officers Association had called for this protest, which will continue till June 6.
The protest is against the state government’s decision to suspend two sub-registrars and a main tehsildar on the charges of allowing registry of plots without seeing the no-objection certificates (NOCs). Because of this, people who had come for their registries could not get their work done.
The revenue officers’ union claimed that Ludhiana East sub-registrar Jeevan Garg, Hoshiarpur sub-registrar Harminder Singh, and Zirakpur naib tehsildar Harminder Singh Sidhu had been suspended for the registry of plots without checking the NOCs. It claimed that these illegal colonies were developed with the connivance of some other officials and developers, while the revenue officials were being targeted without reason. It claimed that earlier also, the government had allowed registries without the no-objection certificates.
