Giridih police ‘canes’ farmers staging protest against graft

Bokaro: Giridih police resorted to a mild lathicharge to disperse members of Kisan Manch, who were demanding action against those from the circle asking for bribes to issue documents, at JP Chowk on Wednesday.
The agitators arrived with a gallon of petrol and threatened self-immolation if their demand was not met. They also blocked the road. Taking preventive measures, SDM Vishaldeep Khalkho first asked the protesters to leave. When they refused, the farmers were removed from the place.
The Manch alleged that the farmers were pushed while some were beaten with sticks. During this, mobile phones of photo journalists were allegedly snatched.
Khalkho said, “First we had to pacify them and then assured them that their demand would be looked into. But as they refused to move, we had to use mild force to disperse them.”
