Karnataka: Security stepped up after murder of JD(S) member in Hassan

HASSAN: Police have stepped up security near Hassan government hospital where the body of city municipal council member Prashanth Nagaraj (40), a JD(S) member, who was brutally killed by a gang, has been kept for post-mortem.
Flower, vegetable and fruit vendors and traders at Kattinkere market voluntarily observed a bandh in protest against the killing of a JD(S) member, by downing shutters. Merchants association of the market condemned the killing.
“Prashanth, a council member from ward 16, was brutally hacked to death by a gang of four-five persons late on Wednesday in Pension Mohalla police station limits. He was on his way home in a two-wheeler when the gang members who came in an auto attacked and killed him with sharp weapons,” the source said.
Hassan police have formed three days to identify and arrest the assailants and officers from neighbouring districts too have been roped in for investigation and security duty.
Meanwhile, former minister HD Revanna who visited the hospital campus criticized and held a section of policemen responsible for the incident.
