Kolkata: Sisters file FIR against youth for stalking & rape threats

KOLKATA: Three sisters from Salt Lake’s AE Block have lodged an FIR alleging that a youth residing in the same block who claimed to have an Army background had stalked and passed obscene comments at them on the evening of May 29 while they were returning home from the market. The Bidhannagar North Police have begun a probe.
According to the complainants, the accused had tried to snatch the keys of their two-wheeler, and became abusive and issued rape threats when they protested. They further alleged that a passer-by who tried to intervene was threatened with rape as well.
“Around 7.45pm on May 29, he began following us and said he would harm us. After abusing the passer-by who tried to help us, he also misbehaved with our guardian whom we had called. He followed us to our house,” the complainants’ letter said.
“Primary investigation has led to a person who suffers from mental illness. We will get his medical examination conducted before deciding on the next course of action. We cannot arrest a person with mental illness,” said an officer.
