Didi cites joblessness, puts BJP on 2024 ‘no entry’ notice

Bankura: Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday sounded a “no entry” for the Narendra Modi government in 2024, claiming that the youth had suffered at the hands of the BJP-led Centre.
“Unemployment during the Modi regime has touched 40% across the country with job opportunities shrinking. Narendra Modi has put the railways, the banks, insurance, coal on sale. Railways, the biggest public employer, drastically abolished vacant posts yesterday,” the CM said at a public rally in Bankura’s Satighat.
Banerjee said that the poor had a raw deal during the Modi regime while her government undertook a slew of state schemes like Lakshmir Bhandar, student education loans, pension for scheduled tribes and widow pension schemes to support the underprivileged.
Addressing Adivasis in Jangalmahal, the CM said her government had increased the procurement rate of kendu leaves from Rs 75 to Rs 170 a bundle.
“The Centre has stopped supplying wheat in the rationing system. It has suspended wages under MGNREGA for the last five months. And where is the Ujjwala scheme of supplying cooking gas connection free to the poor? They are purchasing a cooking gas cylinder for Rs 800,” she said.
Banerjee also cited the RBI report stating that there had been a 102% surge in fake Rs 500 notes. “I had questioned Narendra Modi’s notebandi. I feared that it wouldn’t work. Where has the money gone? Has it all gone with the wind? Why has there been a surge in counterfeit notes? Narendra Modi jabab dao, Amit Shah jabab dao,” the CM said, adding the countdown for the Modi government’s exit had begun.
She called upon Trinamool workers to organise protest rallies in each block on June 5 and 6 against the non-payment of MGNREGS wages.
