Man steals Metro line-IV cables worth ₹8L, held

Thane: The Thane crime branch has arrested a 48-year-old man for allegedly stealing metro line -IV cables of nearly seven tonnes, with a total value of around Rs 8 lakh using a hydra crane and a tempo.
The accused has been identified as Mohammad Shah, and resides in Kudus village on Wada road.
The police said that the cable drum of the project was lying on the road at the Dongripada area of the Ghodbunder road.
The arrested accused who is also a scrap dealer, in connivance with the other two absconding accused arranged for the hydra crane, lifted the cable drum, pushed it in a tempo, and fled to Mahape area of Navi Mumbai.
Later, the officials of the project registered an offence at the Kasarwadavali police station, and accordingly the crime branch carried out a probe.
A tip off to constable Amol Naik who along with investigation officer Deepesh Keni, and the team started the prob, helped get several leads, based on which they arrested Shah.
Upon grilling, he named two other accused who are currently absconding. The police have launched a manhunt to nab them.
