Sethy — were awarded the Shaurya Chakra (posthumously) honour by President
Ram Nath Kovind at the Defence Investiture Ceremony 2022 in New Delhi on Tuesday.
This is for the first time two jawans from the state received the prestigious award. Parents of the martyred jawans received the award. Tudu, 28, and Sethy, 27, had sacrificed their lives during an anti-Maoist operation in Odisha’s Kalahandi district on September 9, 2020. Five suspected Maoists were eliminated in the operation.
“I am proud of my brother. His supreme sacrifice will be always remembered,” said Sunaram Tudu.
“Debasis is the pride of Odisha. He is a brave son of the soil. The entire state is proud of him as he received the prestigious award,” said a relative of Sethy.
Among others, Group Captain Varun Singh, head constable of 118 CRPF, Gund (J&K), Kuldeep Kumar Urawan, head constable Ajeet Singh of 204 COBRA CRPF were given the honour (posthumously) for their sacrifices for the nation. tnn
