Case filed against 7 men for attacking 2

Coimbatore: Police registered a case against a seven-member gang for attempting to murder two youths on Thudiyalur Road on Sunday night. Both youths suffered critical injuries.
The Saravanampatti police identified the injured as M Sakthivel, 21, of Kamuthi in Ramanathapuram district, and R Murugamani Ganesh, 19, a private college student. While Sakthivel was admitted to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital, Ganesh is getting treatment at a private hospital.
On early Monday morning, the CMCH authorities informed police about Sakthivel. Head constable Jayaraman visited Sakthivel at the hospital and recorded his statements. Police said Sakthivel was a college dropout and came to Saravanampatti in search of a job three months ago. He was staying with Murugamani Ganesh, Chandru, Kamalesh and Jothi, all from Kamuthi, in a hostel.
On May 28 around 10.30pm, Sakthivel had gone to a nearby tea stall and noticed that three men were assaulting a woman. He questioned them for beating her. The three men, who were under the influence of alcohol, picked up a quarrel with Sakthivel. They later left the spot with the woman.
The next day around 8.50pm, Sakthivel and Ganesh went to a bakery on Thudiyalur Road. The three men, along with four others, came to the shop and started assaulting Sakthivel with knives and sickles. The attack gashed several parts of his body. Ganesh, who attempted to stop the men, also sustained injuries. The gang escaped after people came to the rescue of the youths.
Based on Sakthivel’s complaint, police registered a case. A team led by inspector Muthamil Selvan was formed to nab the seven men. tnn
