10 get 25-year RI, ₹30k fine each in Dumka rape case

Dumka: The court of the second additional district and session judge Rakesh Kumar Mishra in Dumka on Tuesday sentenced 10 persons to 25-year rigorous imprisonment (RI) each for the gang rape of a married tribal woman by a group of 17 in front of her husband by taking him hostage in 2020. The court also slapped a fine of Rs 30,000 each and failing to pay would translate into additional imprisonment.
The gang rape took place in Dumka on the night of December 8, 2020, when the couple was on their way back home from a nearby rural haat. They were intercepted by a group of 17. The culprits took turns raping the woman in front of her husband.
In her police complaint, the 35-year-old survivor, who is a mother of five children, identified two and another 16 to 17 unidentified persons, including two minors, as the culprits. However, only 12 accused, including the two minors, were arrested. The trial of both minors is underway in a local juvenile court.
Those found guilty are Mangal Murmu, Santosh Hembrom, Bodhilal Hasda, Manoj Hasda, Andreyas Mohli, Ujjawal Hasda, Vikash Hasda, Mithun Tud, Manoj Mohli and Nunulal Murmu.
