Patna: The Centre may soon take up work for construction of a 15-km-long elevated road from Anisabad to
Kacchhi Dargah at Patna. Besides, a multilayer junction or rotary will be constructed at Pahadi on zero miles to facilitate smooth vehicular movement from both flanks of Mahatma Gandhi Setu as well as a proposed bridge parallel to it.
Officials said Union minister of road transport and highways
Nitin Gandkari on Tuesday gave assurance in this regard while reviewing a number of ongoing and proposed highways and bridge projects in Bihar at a meeting with state road construction department (RCD) minister
Nitin Nabin and senior officials at New Delhi.
Gadkari also approved the processing of proposals for declaring 12 roads or highways as national highways. Proposal was also tabled for the extension of Purvanchal Expressway up to Bhagalpur. “We have made a proposal for construction of an elevated bypass from Anisabad to Kachhi Dargah. It will help in decongesting the vehicular movement along the southern periphery of Patna. The Union minister told us that a team will be sent by the ministry of road transport and highways (MoRTH) for on-the-spot evaluation of the proposal,” RCD minister Nitin Nabin told TOI.
Nabin said Gadkari also approved funds to the tune of Rs700 crore under
Setu Nirupam scheme of the Centre for construction of 15 rail overbridges (RoB). “He also assured that bidding process for projects worth Rs12,000 crore, including a six-lane bridge between Tajpur and Bakhtiyarpur, will commence by July. Besides, proposals were tabled for construction of ring roads around
Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Gaya and Bhagalpur towns,” Nabin said.
He said deliberations were also held for forest, environment and wildlife clearance for construction of a number of national highways in the state, including NH-122, NH-331, NH-120, NH-131B, NH-219 and NH-319A.
The Union minister is also slated to inaugurate the restructured eastern flank of Mahatma Gandhi Setu on June 7. The rehabilitation of the 39-year-old bridge over river Ganga and considered the ‘lifeline’ between north and south Bihar is being done by MoRTH by replacing its old superstructure, except pillars, with steel deck superstructure. The rehabilitation work started in February, 2017 and the western flank of the bridge was inaugurated by Gadkari through videoconference on July 31, 2020.
