NOIDA: A fire broke out at a plastic mould manufacturing unit in Sector 7 of Noida on Tuesday morning, police said, adding that there were no injuries or deaths in the incident while goods worth several lakhs of rupees were burnt.
According to cops, the fire broke out at around 4 am and fire tenders were immediately rushed to the spot.
“Initially two fire tenders were sent but looking at the intensity of the fire, three more were pressed into action. The fire started to spread fast due to the plastic in the factory. We were able to control the fire after around two hours,” Arun Kumar Singh, chief fire officer,
GB Nagar, said.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, however, prima facie it appears that some plastic must have got heated and caught fire, officials informed.
“Though the fire was controlled within two hours, the cooling down process continued till afternoon. Due to the fire, the nearby area got covered in thick smoke. No individual was hurt while the loss to property is a subject of detailed assessment,” the officer added.
Meanwhile, sources in the department revealed that the factory did not have a valid fire
NOC (no objection certificate) and the fire safety equipment was also inadequate.
As many as 626 incidents of fire have been reported from January to April 31 this year in GB Nagar, fire department’s data stated.
“Over 100 awareness campaigns and mock drills have been conducted by the department across residential societies, sectors, industrial and commercial areas of the district,” Singh said.
He further added that the department usually gets maximum such cases in April and May because of the heat and short circuit of electric connections.
