No plans to hand over aided school postings to PSC: Min

Thiruvananthapuram: The government is not considering any proposal to hand over the appointments in the aided educational institutions to the state public service commission (PSC), said education minister V Sivankutty on Monday.
He was reacting to the controversies over statements by CPM leader A K Balan that the LDF government is seriously considering handing over the appointments in aided institutions to the PSC.
Earlier, CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan too had come out clearing the confusion over this and had said neither the party nor the government is considering this proposal now.
“Presently, there is no proposal before the government to hand over the appointments to PSC,” said Sivankutty.
However, it has been directed that the temporary appointments being made by the parents teachers association (PTA) in schools should be reported to the employment exchanges.
The temporary vacancies are being filled after conducting an interview by a committee comprising representatives of local bodies and the PTA.
When qualified people are posted in these temporary appointments from the list of employment exchanges, the people who secured placements through the PTA will have to be terminated. Necessary directions have been given on this, said the minister.
Balan had earlier stated that the aided schools managements are minting money through these appointments and there is no social justice in the appointments being made.
Even the chief minister was of the view that the appointments should be handed over to PSC, Balan added.
But Kerala Catholic Bishops’ Council (KCBC) and Nair Service Society (NSS) had come out strongly against any such decision and only Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana Yogam (SNDP) had favoured the appointments through state PSC.
When the issue became a controversy, CPM issued clarifications to pacify the organizations. With Kodiyeri making it clear that there is no such proposal, the controversy had subsided.
