NOIDA: A 35-year-old man from Sudan was allegedly defrauded of $3,500 (approx Rs 2.7 lakh) by two car-borne miscreants on Sunday who posed as cops and pretended to check the victim for drugs.
The foreign national is in India for his relative’s treatment at
Jaypee hospital in Sector 128, cops told.
According to police, the victim, Abu Bakr, is currently staying in a paying guest accommodation in Sector 128. “The incident took place outside Jaypee hospital at around 4.30 pm. Two car-borne miscreants approached Bakr and showed him fake police identity cards, pretending to be drug inspectors,”
Ranvijay Singh, Additional DCP, Noida, said.
While frisking him, the duo checked his wallet and slyly took 3500 US Dollars. By the time Bakr realised that his cash was gone, the men fled in the car. A case has been registered under relevant IPC sections.
