‘Talks on for education of war-hit Indian students’

Vadodara: India is in talks with countries for continuing education of students evacuated from Ukraine. Union minister for external affairs S Jaishankar said this on Monday during his 2-day visit to the city.
Addressing media persons, Jaishankar said that the ministry is making continuous efforts to ensure that students who were evacuated from war-hit Ukraine can complete their education in countries neighbouring Ukraine. He said that Hungary has offered to allow students evacuated from Ukraine to complete their medical courses at its universities.
Earlier, in the day, the external affairs minister reached Vadodara collectorate to participate in a programme where 17 children who had lost their parents during the pandemic received financial aid to the tune of Rs 1.7 crore under the ‘PM Cares for Children’ initiative.
“The determination and courage of the children was both moving and inspiring. Our Covid challenges do not end with the pandemic; we must equally address its consequences,” the minister later tweeted.
The PM Cares for Children scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 29, 2021 to support children who have lost both their parents or legal guardian or adoptive parents or surviving parents to the pandemic during the period from March 11, 2020 to February 28, 2022.
The objective of the scheme is to ensure comprehensive care and protection of children in a sustained manner by providing them boarding and lodging, empowering them through education and scholarships, equipping them for self-sufficient existence with financial support of Rs 10 lakh on attaining 23 years of age and ensuring their well-being through health insurance.
The minister also visited Vadodara passport office and met chartered accountants at a private hotel in the city.
