KOLKATA: The
Geological Survey of India (GSI) on Tuesday strongly refuted the claim of 222.8 million tons of gold reserves, including 27.6 tons of
mineral-rich ore in Jamui district, Bihar.
The GSI in its official statement disowned such reports saying it has not estimated any resources of gold deposit in the
Jamui district unlike what came out in the media recently.
However, it is true that the GSI, with its headquarters in Kolkata, has been executing exploration works in the Jamui district of Bihar since 2016 for Iron and has conducted one gold exploration project in 2012-13. It is to inform that there is no mention of 222.8 million tons of gold reserve, including 27.6 tons of mineral-rich ore in any of its reports.
The GSI strongly condemns such misleading and unsubstantiated news reports attributed to the GSI by a certain section of media. There was another news report stating "GSI has reported underground gold reserve in Bargarh district, Odisha”.
It is to state that the GSI has never carried out any gold exploration activities in the Bargarh district of Odisha till date. This area was studied for a reconnaissance survey for primary source rock for diamonds during 2001-02, 2019-20 & 2021-22, and for fluoride incidences in Bargarh & Bolangir districts during 2021-22 under geo-environmental appraisal studies. Therefore, the GSI firmly refutes such fictitious news published by media houses.
The GSI also strongly refutes the news of “Gold Mines Found in Nellore district” reported in certain media sections in Andhra Pradesh.
In the Nellore district, the GSI is conducting base metal exploration work since 2021 and no gold exploration is being conducted by it in the district hence the news report published by the media is completely baseless and misleading, said the statement released by the GSI director and PRO Ashish Kumar Nath.
It is advised to the media houses to refrain from publishing such illegitimate, unsubstantiated, and misleading information quoting the GSI in the future.
Publishing such news generates false expectations and euphoria in the general public and is actually detrimental to the mineral industry of the country.
