PRAYAGRAJ: The Special Task Force (
Prayagraj unit) on Monday claimed to have busted an interstate racket involved in liquor smuggling and arrested its two key operatives near Wahida power house on Prayagraj - Varanasi highway and seized illegal liquor consignment worth Rs 50 lakhs from them.
Police have also seized one DCM truck involved in smuggling of illegal liquor (225 cartons), two mobile phones, one Adhar card and Rs 1,220 from their possession. The arrested persons were identified as
Samraj and
Vikram, residents of Haryana. Deputy SP (STF)
Navendu Kumar told reporters that, the
STF received a specific tip-off that an illegal consignment of liquor was being sent to many districts of Bihar from Punjab via Prayagraj-Varanasi highway. A team of STF swung into action and intercepted one truck container with fake registration numbers near Wahida power house, in district Bhadohi.
The arrested persons told the police that two men, named as Lalit and Pradeep of Mohali, was involved in smuggling ofliquor from Punjab to Motihari district of Bihar state.
They also told thepolice that liquor smugglers were using WhatsApp chat groups as communication mode to deliver the consignments and stay in touch.
