“The annual contest, CCCC 10.0 being the current edition, will have three stages. Stage I is going to be held in an online mode whereas II and III will have a hybrid mode. Stage I begins with a Practice Round to familiarise participants with the format of the contest. Though it is a non-scoring round, it creates a lot of excitement among the young participants who vie for the top spots at every stage of this widely popular contest,” Amitabh Ranjan, chief operating officer of the Extra-C, which organises the contest, told TOI here on Monday.

“The three scoring rounds in Stage I will be held on three successive Sundays on June 5, 12 and 19, 2022. The top-performing teams from states and cities will qualify for Stage II. A team which tops the Leaderboard of any of the three online rounds in Stage I will qualify for the next one irrespective of the final cumulative Leaderboard ranking,” he said.

“The free-of-cost registration is open on www.crypticsingh.com and will continue to accept participation till the beginning of the third round on June 19. On all three Sundays, the contest will be held between 2 pm (1400 hours) and 5 pm (1700 hours),” Ranjan said.

Acknowledged as the biggest event of its kind by the Limca Book of Records, the CCCC is a permanent fixture on the co-curricular activities calendar of a large number of schools in India and is considered as the gold standard of excellence.

Its inaugural edition was held in 2013, when the world marked the ‘Year of the Crossword’ as a tribute to Arthur Wynne, the creator of the first published crossword grid 100 years back.
