Lightning kills student in Ganjam

Berhampur: An MSc botany second-year student of Berhampur University died in a lightning strike at Gopalpur on Saturday afternoon. Amit Kumar Nayak, a resident of Bhubaneswar, used to live at the varsity’s Bhanja Bihar hostel.
The incident took place when Nayak, along with his friends from the university, was strolling on a beach in Gopalpur. Some parts of the district on Saturday experienced showers, accompanied by thunder and lightning. On being rushed to MKCG Medical College and Hospital, doctors declared him dead, police said.
“We have registered a case of unnatural death and launched an inquiry,” said IIC of Gopalpur police station, Srikant Khamari.TNN
