HEC staff to gherao office on June 2

Ranchi: Workers at the Heavy Engineering Corporation Ltd (HEC) have decided to gherao the PSU’s corporate office next week in order to press the company for their salaries, which have not been paid in the last six months.
“The two HEC unions -- CITU-affiliated Hatia Mazdoor Union (HMU) and the Hatia Kamgar Union, affiliated to AIUTC – during a joint meeting today decided to gherao the HEC office at Dhurwa in Ranchi on June 2 to demand work and payment for the work done,” Bhawan Singh, HMU president, told TOI.
“After June 2, the workers’ agitation would continue in phases till the management takes concrete steps to turn the PSU around. If the HEC fails to provide work to its staff then it would mean that the entire board of directors, headed by the chairman, has no right to remain in their posts,” he added.
HEC is unable to run its machines as it doesn’t have the required cash to procure raw materials and other inputs, Singh alleged.
