THANE: A father-son duo from Ulhasnagar was arrested on Sunday for allegedly clobbering a stray dog to death on Saturday evening. The canine had littered six puppies recently and the young ones kept yelping all night around their dead mother. The arrested accused - Deepak Motiramaniand his son Hitesh - assaulted the dog as she used to shuffle footwear kept on a shoe rack outside their house and used to scatter it around, said an official from Central police station.
"It was heart-rending to see the six puppies whimpering innocently around their dead mother all through the night," a source said, adding that animal lovers had a "difficult time", weaning the puppies away while taking away the carcass on Sunday morning. The female dog and her six puppies strayed around Aashtha Hospital in Ulhasnagar 3.
The complainant in the case, Ashish Sarkar, said he saw Deepak and Hitesh hitting the mother dog with a stick on Saturday in the afternoon. Later that evening, the mother dog was found injured and died subsequently. The two have been booked for killing an animal.
