Woman booked for extorting money from city man

Ludhiana: Nine months after a complaint was filed, the PAU police booked a Bathinda woman for extorting money from a city resident after honey trapping him. When a local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) office-bearer intervened and stopped the man from paying her, the woman started threatening him of implicating him in a rape case. The BJP office-bearer then lodged a police complaint.
After completion of the inquiry, the FIR was lodged against Mandeep Kaur of Rampura Phul, Bathinda.

Complainant Kantendu Sharma, general secretary, Ludhiana BJP, said he is in the medicine trade and one of his friends was in contact with the woman who honey trapped him and extorted money from him. “When he shared it with me, I stopped him from paying the money. Thereafter the woman started threatening me,” he said.
Sharma alleged that the accused woman threatened to implicate him in a rape case and kill him. She also sent threatening messages from different phone numbers, he said. He said he had lodged a police complaint on September 2, 2021, following which an inquiry was marked.
PAU police station SHO inspector Gurpreet Singh said the police have lodged the FIR under sections 384 (extortion), 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC and Section 66D (cheating by personation by using computer resource) of the IT Act against the woman. A hunt is on to arrest her.
