Man beats wife to death in Chatra, held

Chatra: Baby Devi (28) was killed by her husband Sheetal Bharati (37) at Larkua village under Sadar police station area in Chatra district during the early hours of Sunday for allegedly dancing in a wedding ceremony on Saturday. The accused was arrested.
Sources said Sheetal became angry with Baby when he heard about his wife having danced with other women during a marriage ceremony. He went home and started beating her, leading to her death. He hanged her from a tree to project it as a case of suicide and was trying to escape when he was caught after locals alerted the police.
Sadar police station officer in-charge Luv Kumar sent the body to Chatra sadar hospital for postmortem. ASI Shashikant Thakur said, “We have lodged an FIR and arrested Sheetal.”
Chatra SDPO Avinash Kumar said, “Sheetal killed his wife after a dispute. Villagers claimed that she was killed by her husband as she danced in a marriage. We are investigating to find out if her in-laws, who are on the run, were involved. We are waiting for the postmortem report.”
