Another model found dead in Kolkata, fourth incident in two weeks

The body of 18-year-old Saraswati Das, who was also a make-up artist, was found hanging in the room of her residence at Bediadanga in Kasba area on Sunday, the police said.

Kolkata: An 18-year-old model Saraswati Das was found dead at her residence in Kasba. This is the death of the fourth model within a span of 15 days.

According to police officials, Saraswati did modeling in small ventures and was also a make-up artist.

“Initial probe says that Saraswati hanged herself on Saturday night. Her grandmother was the first one to see Saraswati in this condition and took her to a nearby hospital where she was declared dead. We are waiting for the autopsy report,” said the police official.

The police also mentioned that Saraswati’s mother and aunt used to work as ‘helping hand’ at other's house and her father had abandoned them in her childhood.

Last week, a model-turned-actress Bidisha De Majumdar had committed suicide and the next day, another model and also Bidisha’s friend Manjushree Niyogi had committed suicide after suffering from ‘depression’. On May 15, a television actor Pallabi De had also committed suicide and her boyfriend Sagnik is in police custody.
