KOTTAYAM: A state leader of the
Popular Front of India (PFI) was arrested in connection with the raising of provocative slogans by a minor boy during
PFI rally.

Yahiya Thangal, 47, was arrested from his residence in
Thrissur in the early hours of Sunday. He was the chairman of the reception committee of the PFI mega meet held in
Alappuzha on May 21. Yahiya was in Alappuzha on Saturday where he had inaugurated a PFI protest march held to the office of the district police chief.
Police have also charged a case against the organizers of this march for conducting the march without permission. Yahiya has also allegedly criticised the high court judges in his speech during the inauguration. He had allegedly said that the high court judges are getting shocked after hearing the slogans of the Alappuzha rally and the reason is that their innerwear is saffron.
According to police sources, the court is likely to take a suo motu case on those references made against the judges.
Yahiya, who was taken into custody, was brought to Alappuzha South station with heavy police security . Meanwhile, all the five people, including the father of the boy, who were arrested on Saturday were remanded in judicial custody. So far, 26 people have been arrested in connection with the 'hate slogan'.
